Mobile Phone Review: Blackberry Passport

The BlackBerry Passport is a smartphone that has been developed by BlackBerry Limited. Within the electronics industry, it is known as a phablet because of the way that it has successfully combined the features that you can usually find in both tablets and smartphones. The Passport is unique and instantly recognizable because of its signature display that has a square shape, measuring 4.5 inches diagonally. As is the case with the majority of other BlackBerry models, the Passport comes with a physical keyboard that is also able to be used in the form of a touchpad.

Because the Passport is in the shape of a square, holding it and typing on it for extended periods of time is no problem at all. The fact that the device only has a weight of 6.9 ounces is yet another of its great advantages. It is the ideal phone if you are looking for one that is light and easy to carry with you throughout the day. Although it does not weigh much, it is still built very well and has a sturdy construction that will prevent it from being broken easily. Perhaps you have owned a BlackBerry phone at some point, such as the BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Curve or BlackBerry Pearl. If you enjoyed using any of these previous models, you might want to give the Passport a try. You might like it.

There is a 1,440 x 1,440-pixels resolution on the Passport’s display. The per inch pixel density is 453 pixels. As far as smartphone screens are concerned, this one looks very good. However, the feature that tends to attract the most people to the Passport is the width of the screen. In fact, the display has the ability to show as many as 60 characters on each line. If you are a person who likes to spend many hours online, the Passport is ideally suited for you. Since the display is larger than most smartphones, reading text on various websites is a simple task. You will never again strain your eyes from trying to read tiny text on a small smartphone screen. The display allows a lot of text to be placed all at once on the screen. There will be no need to get a wider view by using a different landscape mode. You will also not have to zoom in on a site in order to read it.

If you enjoy looking at photos or watching videos on your smartphone, the BlackBerry Passport can handle these tasks with no problem at all. Amazingly vivid and bright colors will be used to display your videos and photos. Also, you will never need to worry about these colors shifting if you hold the phone at different angles. If a picture does not look good to you, all you need to do is switch the color saturation and the white balance by using the color settings that are located on the display. The IPS LCD screen will always have superb clarity whether you are looking at it indoors or outdoors. It is important to note that like the majority of smartphones, direct sunlight will make the screen more difficult to see.

Keyboards have been one of the most recognizable traits on most BlackBerry devices for as long as the company has existed. The Passport is slightly different than the BlackBerry keyboards you are used to using. Previous BlackBerry devices had keyboards containing four rows of keys. However, only three rows of keys are found on the Passport. This can be considered a merging of a physical keyboard and one that is virtual. Context-sensitive keys can be found on the lower part of the display.

The operating system that powers the Passport is called BlackBerry OS 10.3. Users of the Passport will be able to use apps designed for Android devices. Amazon Appstore comes preinstalled on the Passport. Therefore, all that a user has to do is start the Appstore to download various apps, just like smartphones that are produced by Android. The BlackBerry app world download can also be used to acquire more apps. Obviously, BlackBerry’s iconic BBM feature is part of the Passport. If you have friends or family that use Android, iOS or Windows Phone devices, they will still be able to contact you on BBM.

The BlackBerry 10.3 operating system has been receiving praise from users because of its smooth and easy functionality. One of the things that BlackBerry has always been known for is being one of the best when it comes to email and messaging services. The sidebar that is called “Instant Actions” can be used for fast replies to text messages. Emails can also be deleted or placed in files with the use of this feature. The feature called “Priority Hub” is used for the sorting of crucial emails and text messages. Messages that you deem important can be flagged so the Priority Hub will receive them in the future to allow you to easily sort and read them.

A streamlined interface is something that BlackBerry Passport users have really enjoyed. It has made the device much simpler to use. Just swipe down with one finger and you will be able to access an app’s settings. Using two fingers to swipe down can provide you with your phone’s general settings. Swipe up from the bottom to minimize an app. You can open up to eight apps at once with the Passport.

The Passport is the first BlackBerry device to feature the Assistant. This is similar to Siri, the personal assistant included with Apple iPhones. The Assistant is activated in the same way Siri is. Simply turn the Assistant on and start talking. It can be used for the sending of text massages, creating a schedule, sending emails, dictating notes and many other tasks. If you are a sports fan and you want to be kept up to date on the progress of current games, simply ask the Assistant for scores for a specific sport. You will be provided with all of the scores for games in progress, along with a schedule for all upcoming games.
